Jessie Ericzon was a 17 year old girl that loved spaghettiOs, listening to her iPod, and laughing with her friends. When her family doctor recommended to her and her parents that she receive the Gardasil vaccination to protect her from HPV and the small chance that the HPV could lead to cervical cancer, she and her parents made what they thought was the safe choice. Her parents now believe they made the wrong choice. Jessie died on February 22, two days after receiving her third and final injection of the vaccination. Her parents believe that her death was a direct result of Gardasil. Her mom feel that Jessie was a “guinea pig” for Gardasil and has encouraged parents to research this vaccine before giving it to their daughters.
The Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System, which is run by the FDA and CDC, has collected 8,000 reports of problems after Gardasil shots. These problems include paralysis, seizures, miscarriages, and in Jessie’s case, death. Seventeen other deaths from Gardasil have been reported.
This drug is mass marketed to teenagers and parents of those teenagers. We need more information about the risks and dangers so that responsible decisions can be made based on the science and evidence, not slick marketing based on fear.
